How Media Platforms Portray and Define Ideal Body Types

Social media platforms have taken over the 21st century. Through the virtue of technological advancements and the rise of electronic devices, access to almost any form of media has been made possible. However, this leads to social media networks being used as a marketing platform in order to sell more products, self-promotion, and generally are considered a valuable asset in the marketing world.

The fitness industry is currently more popular than ever before, in large part thanks to the rapid growth of social networks and the upheaval of content related to body image. Industry giants such as Gymshark, Gorilla Wear, and Optimum Nutrition have a lengthy history of advertising and promoting body types that cannot be achieved without the usage of steroids. Furthermore, multiple influencers such as; Mike Ohearn, David Laid, Uzoma Obilor, large quantities of Hollywood actors, and numerous Victorias Secret models are constantly in the spotlight in regards to their bodies, with their visage being more detrimental to their own well being in most cases. This leads to large spreads of misinformation, with many celebrities denying their usage of PEDs in order to protect their public image, and therefore guiding the public to an ideal that cannot be reached naturally.

This is the reason why I chose to focus on this particular topic, as it is currently a major issue that is definitely not talked about enough and requires further investigation.
